There’s been a bucket load of research in recent years that shows an overwhelming link between good mental health and time spent outdoors. No arguments here! The National Institute for Health UK released data that showed mental health outcomes improved in 92% of studies when people spent time in nature. Physical and cognitive health improved over 83% and 75% of the same studies respectively (See here).

IBYG was founded because we want people to fall in love with spending time outdoors, connecting in thoughtfully designed garden spaces. For many of us, we would love to spend more time outdoors, if we simply had more time! For others, it’s that the outdoor space available to us is run down, cluttered and not weatherproof so we just don’t want to go out there.

A study out of the Happiness Research Institute showed that people who spent more time enjoying nature experienced a sense of time literally slowing down. They didn’t have more time – but they perceived that they had more time. The difference was time spent outdoors.
